dreamsWe dream for one third of our lives… We cannot go without dream sleep. Michelle Walter looks at the power of Dreams

Dreams are the language of the soul. The question is, how do we listen when our soul speaks to us? The intention of this dream column is to explore different interpretations of dreams and dreaming so that you can improve your inner communication and let your soul sing.

Dreamtime Adventure

Dreams can be intense and dramatic: like when you can wake up in a sweat with the sheets twisted around your leg. Or they can be puzzling and obscure. Our night-time sleep is a time of rest, but it is also a time of adventure. There are many new experiences that can happen in dreams. And dreams are a stage for our inner psychic to perform upon. Many people meet people in their dreams, who become significant in their life in the future, or they foresee events, have visitations or out of body experiences. Who wants to miss out on so much action by merely sleeping?

All Dreams Count!

There is always a meaning that can be gained from a dream, even those dreams that seem to be a rehearsal of a very boring day ahead. In my research, I have found Freud has something to say about the most seemingly insignificant of dream events. So don't discount your dreams as irrelevant or unimportant. Give yourself a chance to delve into the possible meanings they may have for you.

Everyone Dreams

Science has proven that everyone dreams every night. You don't have to be special or have extra-sensory abilities to dream. You just have to honour your dreams as important. Listen to them, prepare yourself before you go to sleep. Give your dreams the biggest present you can give: your attention! (Any three year old child knows this). Give your dreams your attention and they will come out from behind the curtain to perform!

Dream Lover.

What happens when we fall in love or experience very erotic dreams? Except for perhaps 14 year old boys, these dreams can often have quite a deep significance. Relationships, sexuality and the feelings that go on between men and women, are born in the realm of the subconscious and this is the land you enter when you dream. So the dream space is a perfect environment for exploring hidden feelings and potentials. Clients of mine have described meeting men (or women) in their dreams only to experience the same things in waking life. Because this experience is so rare, sometimes people place too much importance or meaning on the dream event, assuming that because they have dreamt of someone they must be ‘the one’ or a ‘soul mate’ or they are destined to be with their dream-lover. But this is not necessarily so – you can dream of someone in order to be more aware and conscious of hidden aspects of the relationship. For example, a lover you may have abandoned because you thought there was no hope, may appear in your dream to make you reconsider your opinion. Your dream messages are a normal, practical part of being a living, conscious being. They are a different kind of intuitive intelligence that can give us insight into people and situations that we normally wouldn’t experience.
